The Center for Biomedical Research (CEINBIO) is a chemical and biomedical research center of excellence, which has national, regional and international recognition.
CEINBIO has its central base in the Department of Biochemistry of the Faculty of Medicine, although it stands out that it functions as an interdisciplinary and multi-institutional academic space, where researchers and topics converge in areas of knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, pathophysiology and pharmacology of oxide-reduction processes. In addition, it interacts with multiple departments and research units of the Faculties of Medicine, Sciences, Dentistry, Chemistry, Architecture, the Institut Pasteur de Montevideo, the School of Nutrition, the National Institute for Agricultural Research, and CENUR Litoral Norte.
The training of human resources represents a permanent and central activity. Currently, doctoral studies are being developed within the framework of PROINBIO, PEDECIBA-Biology, PEDECIBA-Chemistry. Likewise, our Center receives foreign interns as well as visiting professors in the different laboratories.
We work in collaboration with the pharmaceutical and food industry, providing advice in the area of Chemistry and Biology of Free Radicals and Antioxidants. We collaborate with this sector carrying out the development and evaluation of antioxidant compounds, as well as the functional analysis and antioxidant characteristics of natural products.
CEINBIO was created in 2004 and is directed by Dr. Rafael Radi.
