Research highlights 2018-2022
I have made significant contributions to mitochondrial biology during the 2018 to 2022 period. I arrived in early 2018 with members of my team to the Institut Pasteur to establish the Mitochondrial Biology Group. At the Institut Pasteur, my lab has revolutionized the way we can identify and study genes that control the shape of mitochondria by devising a supervised machine learning approach that can be coupled to high-content phenotypic screening to perform epistasis analyses. The application of this and other tools in my lab, which we are currently using to investigate the metabolic regulation of mitochondrial morphology as originally planned in my ERC-StG (2017-2022), has also enabled us to meticulously disentangle the pleiotropic effects of well-known mitochondrial disease genes, which I see as major achievement of my lab. Together, these studies highlight the proficiency with which I have applied interdisciplinary approaches in biochemistry, cell biology, mouse genetics and cardiac physiology to address complex biological questions. These highly cited papers represent innovative discoveries and demonstrate that I am optimally positioned to lead the proposed project as a principal investigator and DR, which I am convinced will lead to exciting discoveries at the crossroads of mitochondrial and tissue biology.
