Dr. Guillermo Barreto is since 2021 Director of Research at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France. He previously worked as Director of Scientific Projects at the University Paris Est Creteil (UPEC) in France and was an Independent Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research in Germany. Research activities in Dr. Barreto's laboratory focus on the epigenetic mechanisms that regulate transcription and global genome organization under physiological conditions and their alterations during chronic diseases, such as lung cancer and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He is also interested in exploring the crosstalk between tumor cells and microenvironment for the development of patient tailored therapeutics approaches in hematological cancers.
He studies involve an integrative analysis of multi-omics studies implementing cutting-edge next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and high-resolution mass spectrometry. His expertise also includes single cell transcriptomics and proteomics, as well as spatial transcriptomics. He has published over 64 publications, developed two licensed patents with clinical relevance, and leads an ongoing clinical trial. He has also trained 5 Postdocs, 12 PhD students an 8 Master Students from different universities, that are now pursuing promising scientific careers.
